Heshima - Center for Children with Special Needs

Heshima (Kiswahili for "dignity") is a center for children with special needs, located in the Ngando slums of Nairobi, Kenya. In Kenya, children with special needs are rarely treated with dignity. They are often hidden away, kept inside the home. As they grow older, most are shunned and treated with very little respect. Heshima is a place of hope for these children and their families. We want to show them that they deserve to be treated with dignity, with respect, with love. Our God cherishes them and long to lavish His love on them!! Heshima was founded by Tracey Hagman. As a parent of a child with special needs, she has a heart for serving these children and their families. Tracey has established a network of highly qualified specialists to work with these extremely underprivileged children. The children of Heshima are now afforded the awesome privilege of receiving physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and quality special education. Trena assists Tracey in overseeing the daily education of these children and providing training for their regular teachers.
